Though it borders on Ancelstierre, which is pretty much like the real world circa the early 1900s, the Old Kingdom is more like a separate dimension, though one where travel between the two is relatively easy. In the Old Kingdom, there are two types of magic - Free Magic, which is older and ingrained in the world, and Charter Magic, which draws on the great Charter that was woven in the beginning by the seven Bright Shiners. Free Magic can allow the Dead to cross back into the lands of the living, and is also corruptive to humans. Charter Magic is 'safer', and involves drawing on marks from the Charter to perform pretty typical magical effects.
The Dog is essentially a creature of Free Magic, but she wears a Charter marked collar and can command both.
In terms of world-shaking events, the Destroyer, an entity bound back when the Charter was first created, has been partially freed, and the Dog, along with her companions are attempting to stop it from being freed completely.
Issues to Be Explored:She certainly doesn't think she has any issues, but she does have some - her desire/need not to be known for what she is being the major one. Especially when it conflicts with her ability to protect those she cares about. Religious Affiliation: Well, she's devoted to Lirael. In terms of religion, do gods really need to believe in themselves? Plot: Not currently. But I'll try to remember to update this if anything happens. Stipulations: I'm okay with him hinting that she's more than just a talking dog. But nothing more than hinting. I figure they'll probably talk this out at some point. Tagging: Please :)
