She still feels guilt over Ashley's death (but has now stopped blaming herself), she has all the troubles and issues with John, she doesn't trust so easily, all the guilt over anything that's happened to her friends (from home) - she blames herself if anything happens to them or if they get hurt (or die) because she's put them into her world. Here everyone's already in it and for her research she will not work with anyone as she's trying to stop them from being hurt by being there (and would rather be hurt herself). And if anything gets emotionally tough she tends to ignore it and dives further (and harder) into her work. She's terrible at looking after herself - she'll put everyone else first to keep them safe or look after them.
